Stage Set Up

First Iteration
The initial IGNITE RealTalks poster designs embraced the retro diner-inspired aesthetic. The playful bursts, smiley faces, and a pastel vintage colour palette set the tone, paired with bold, dynamic fonts reminiscent of classic diner signage. These early iterations balanced nostalgia with modern elements, creating a vibrant and approachable design that captured the event’s energy and laid the groundwork for the final refined version.

Inspiration
The aesthetic for the event was inspired by Amelia Dimoldenberg's Chicken Shop Date YouTube series. We wanted to pay homage to the series by adapting a modern twist to the retro diner vibe to engage the student audience. This vision influenced our choice of a vibrant yet nostalgic colour scheme, blending pastel hues with bold accents to evoke the feel of a classic diner with a contemporary flair. Initial inspiration boards featured imagery of retro signage, checkered patterns, and mid-century modern furniture, which guided the design elements across the stage, promotional materials, and interview setup. This cohesive aesthetic created an engaging and playful environment that was both relatable and memorable for attendees.

The Key Visual
This final layout effectively combined the playful retro diner aesthetic with a polished, modern design. By brightening the colours and refining the typography, the poster achieved greater visual clarity and balance, making it more engaging for the student audience. The vibrant orange background paired with bold elements, like the angled text and illustrated smiley faces, added energy while maintaining readability. Additionally, Amelia’s updated portrait aligned with the overall clean and contemporary direction, ensuring the poster stood out across digital and physical platforms.
